The purpose of this event is to promote the creation and performance of art that engages communities and provides a platform for artistic voices to be heard uncensored. \nFeatured Artists of the Night: Erica Grant (Motives) is a new artist. She was born and raised in Coushatta\, Louisiana. Erica is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University where she participated in many organizations including Louisiana Tech’s Poetry Society and Theater. Erica currently works as Speech Language Pathologist – Assistant in different settings. During her free time\, she takes delight in learning new information and trading in the stock market. Erica enjoys serving others and believes that her work and art is a way for her to do so. \nNina\, stage name The Next Write Thing\, is an author\, poet\, performing artists\, and actress. She’s a poet for Alexandria’s very own longest running poetry organization “Ignite the Mic\,” where she has been performing for almost 6 years. In 2024\, she competed in two Dallas poetry slams where she won back to back\, and gained the title “Lyrical Warfare Champion.” Nina has become a member of Alexandria’s one and only improv group “Improvocations.” She’s also performed in Spectral Sister’s 10 minute play festival and is now officially a member of the SSP board. She also owns her own media company “My Big Day Media.” In 2022\, she released her first book titled “Perplexed.” She enjoys creating different worlds through her writing and performances. Her goal is to hold the hand of each listener and spectator with her words\, as she walks them through the shoes of a stranger\, in hopes that crafting her visions and emotions into physical art forms will link souls together\, if not through the beauty of empathy\, then at least a moment of understanding. She finds enjoyment in exploring new things\, and has a goal to treat everyday like an adventure. As an artist and entrepreneur\, he founded a clothing brand entitled “She Be” to ignite men to stand in solidarity with women\, with a mission to uplift\, motivate and empower equality for all. LGB has toured the nation\, lending his charisma and poetic talent to audiences of all ages. During the COVID -19 pandemic\, he hosted an Instagram Poetry Slam to maintain joy in his poetry community while keeping their pens sharp. Lyrically Gifted Brother’s mission is to make his audience laugh and listen\, leaving them entertained\, inspired\, and motivated to create change. \nLyriK Hunter\, a current resident of Dallas\, Texas\, has been writing and singing\, since a young age and performing consistently since 2020. LyriK’s attempt to conquer stage fright and fear of public speaking turned into an unexpected blessing\, early on\, allowing her to spread\, love\, encouragement\, and inspiration to the world\, through her passionate delivery of words on both national and international stages and platforms!! Lyrik\, is a published author\, singer/Songwriter\, Actress\, Recording Artist\, Host\, Teaching Artist\, Mentor\, and full-time entrepreneur\, often referred to as the “singing storyteller” or the “heart healer” by her peers. Her ability to be authentic is proving daily\, that even the most heartbreaking and darkest experiences in life\, can still produce peace\, love\, & light! #PoetiKHealing is what she loves to call it! A simple reminder\, that there’s healing in life’s roller-coaster rides\, as long as you dare to dream and never give up the fight! \nSherry G. is a lover of all things art. She is the founder of Ignite The Mic Alexandria\, the longest running poetry organization in Central Louisiana. She believes that art transcends racial and gender lines\, and has the power to unite people and communities. She has been performing poetry and coordinating poetry events since 2004. Sherry is a huge advocate for diverse representation in all platforms. Her poetry often tackles uncomfortable topics such as racism\, abuse\, and social injustice. In addition to writing poetry\, Sherry is a highly sought after poetry coach and event coordinator. She loved school so much that she just kept going back. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Arts in English\, a Master of Arts in Teaching\, a Master of Arts in Counseling\, and a plethora of professional licensures and certifications. She loves ice cream\, naps\, all things real estate\, outdoor activities\, and traveling. \nWayne Henry\, poet\, teacher\, father and P.O.C enthusiast\, was raised in South Central Los Angeles\, and exposed to a melting pot of different cultures which allows him to have a broad canvas for his work. Wayne Henry moved to Dallas TX in 2008\, and has become a passionate poet who writes each line to watch it come alive through poetry. He is dedicated to bringing awareness to issues such as mental health\, oppression\, depression and concepts of spiritual growth. Passion with purpose pushes life to new heights.

After moving to Dallas\, Texas\, they began studying the art more intensely under the mentorship of Candy\, as a part of the Dallas Poetry Slam team (2020-2022). Rain has brought their dynamic writing style and wide range of poetic topics to cities all over the U.S.\, ranking 15th at WOWPS 2020 and 2nd at Nationals 2021 with the Dallas Slam team\, as well as editors choice in Button Poetry’s video contest 2021 with the group poem “American Clone” with the poet C.R.U.S.H. Rain used their knowledge and experience at the youth and adult level to teach poetry to kids and teens. She was born and raised in Coushatta\, Louisiana. Erica is Graduate of Louisiana Tech University where she participated in many organizations including Louisiana Tech’s Poetry Society and Theater. Erica currently works as Speech Language Pathologist – Assistant in different settings. She enjoys serving others and believes that her work and art is a way for her to do so. \nNina\, stage name The Next Write Thing\, is an author\, poet\, performing artists\, and actor. She enjoys creating different worlds through her writing and performances. Her goal is the hold the hand of each listener and spectator with her words as she walks them through the shoes of a stranger\, in hopes that crafting her visions and emotions into physical art forms will link souls together if not through the beauty of empathy\, then at least a moment of understanding. She finds enjoyment in exploring new things\, and has a goal to treat everyday like an adventure. She hopes to always be known by the kindness and smile she lends to everyone she meets\, as she believes her “love language” seizing the moment. \nLucille “Nina” Simon is a spoken word poet from Alexandria\, Louisiana. Nina fell in love with words in 2008\, and when she discovered that words have power and when you speak\, people listen\, she decided that she would never again allow anyone to stifle her voice. She believed that in order to be a great writer\, she needed more education\, so she enrolled at LSUA\, and graduated in 2015 with a BA in English. Later she earned her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Louisiana Christian University in 2021. Nina has been performing her poetry since 2009\, when she was invited to do an open mic show. After that first show\, she fell in love with the stage. She looks forward to all the places poetry will take her and all the people she will meet in the process. \nSherry G. is the founder of Ignite The Mic Alexandria. She is a lover of all things art. She believes that art transcends racial and gender lines\, and has the power to unite people and communities. She has been performing poetry and coordinating poetry events since 2004. Sherry is a huge advocate for diverse representation in all platforms. Her poetry often tackles uncomfortable topics such as racism\, abuse\, and social injustice. In addition to writing poetry\, Sherry is a highly sought after poetry coach and event coordinator. She loved school so much that she just kept going back. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Arts in English\, a Master of Arts in Teaching\, a Master of Arts in Counseling\, and a plethora of professional licensures and certifications. Basketball\, poetry\, painting\, singing\, and writing took up most of the idle time. After graduating high school\, Chrystal joined the Navy and served proudly before being honorably discharged in July of 2011. Graduating as an Art major in 2018\, Chrystal decided to pursue her dream of being a singer and songwriter. She is a non-profit artist whose plan is not to make a living\, but to make a difference. \nChrystal Doomes is a Christian woman with generations of pastors on her late father’s side of the family. Keeping that first\, the focus is to be a positive force in the industry. To uplift\, while developing a since of urgency among us to break history’s cycle of black on black crime. A movement to shed a light on how we treat our own race. Chrystal admitted that this is not something to accomplish alone. A portion of the show will be dedicated to the 2023 fundraising campaign of Ignite The Mic Alexandria. \nFeatured entertainment of the night: Abstract Music Group is a four-piece American funk\, hip-hop\, oldies\, R&B\, and neo-soul band from Alexandria\, Louisiana. The band formed in 2010 from a collection of music loving\, down to earth\, great musicians who met playing in local churches. Abstract Music Group has headlined at the River Fete and Winter Fete music festivals. Contact: 318.769.9903 \nFeatured Artist of the Night: Geno Delafose is a zydeco accordionist and singer. He is one of the younger generations of the genre who has created the sound known as the nouveau zydeco. His sound is deeply rooted in traditional Creole music with strong influences from Cajun music and also country and western. His father is the famous zydeco accordion player John Delafose. \nDelafose was born and raised in Eunice\, Louisiana. At the age of eight\, he joined his father’s band\, the Eunice Playboys as a rubboard player and continued to play with the band until his father’s death in 1994. He also appeared on the several of the bands recordings. He switched to the accordion in the early 1990s and started to play as an opening act for his father. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album” category for his Le Cowboy Creole album (2007). He lives in Duralde\, Louisiana near Eunice where he operates his Double D Ranch raising cattle and horses. \nIn 1994\, he debuted with album French Rockin’ Boogie on Rounder Records. The name of this album also became the name of his band with whom he still plays with today. He released two more albums from the label\, before signing with Time Square label to release Everybody’s Dancin’ in 2003. He has also appeared on the compilation album Creole Bred: A Tribute to Creole & Zydeco released in 2004 on Vanguard Records. \nFamily friendly event\, but please be advised that “colorful” language may be used.
