Ignite The Mic presents, “The Home Team Showcase.”

Bring a date; bring a friend. Do something different with your Sunday evening. We invite everyone to join us for an amazing night of artistry as poets, singers, and musicians grace the stage.

Ignite The Mic Alexandria is the longest running poetry organization in Central Louisiana, and the number one gathering place for artists and lovers of the arts. Ignite The Mic is a local nonprofit organization centered around unity, inclusion, diversity, and healing through the arts. We believe freedom of speech, self-determination, and the pursuit of creative excellence are inalienable rights. Furthermore, we believe poetry can be used to create a healthy dialogue about issues, often deemed taboo to discuss. We strive to create an understanding and appreciation for diverse perspectives by cultivating and amplifying creative voices. The purpose of this event is to promote the creation and performance of art that engages communities and provides a platform for artistic voices to be heard uncensored.

Poets, singers, musicians, and more: the stage is yours! Want to sign up to showcase your talent? We’d love to have you. Contact: 318.769.9903

Featured Artists of the Night:

Erica Grant (Motives) is a new artist. She was born and raised in Coushatta, Louisiana. Erica is Graduate of Louisiana Tech University where she participated in many organizations including Louisiana Tech’s Poetry Society and Theater. Erica currently works as Speech Language Pathologist – Assistant in different settings. She enjoys serving others and believes that her work and art is a way for her to do so.

Nina, stage name The Next Write Thing, is an author, poet, performing artists, and actor. She enjoys creating different worlds through her writing and performances. Her goal is the hold the hand of each listener and spectator with her words as she walks them through the shoes of a stranger, in hopes that crafting her visions and emotions into physical art forms will link souls together if not through the beauty of empathy, then at least a moment of understanding. She finds enjoyment in exploring new things, and has a goal to treat everyday like an adventure. She hopes to always be known by the kindness and smile she lends to everyone she meets, as she believes her “love language” seizing the moment.

Lucille “Nina” Simon is a spoken word poet from Alexandria, Louisiana. Nina fell in love with words in 2008, and when she discovered that words have power and when you speak, people listen, she decided that she would never again allow anyone to stifle her voice. She believed that in order to be a great writer, she needed more education, so she enrolled at LSUA, and graduated in 2015 with a BA in English. Later she earned her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Louisiana Christian University in 2021. Nina has been performing her poetry since 2009, when she was invited to do an open mic show. After that first show, she fell in love with the stage. She looks forward to all the places poetry will take her and all the people she will meet in the process.

Sherry G. is the founder of Ignite The Mic Alexandria. She is a lover of all things art. She believes that art transcends racial and gender lines, and has the power to unite people and communities. She has been performing poetry and coordinating poetry events since 2004. Sherry is a huge advocate for diverse representation in all platforms. Her poetry often tackles uncomfortable topics such as racism, abuse, and social injustice. In addition to writing poetry, Sherry is a highly sought after poetry coach and event coordinator. She loved school so much that she just kept going back. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Arts in Teaching, a Master of Arts in Counseling, and a plethora of professional licensures and certifications. She loves ice cream, naps, all things real estate, outdoor activities, and traveling.
