Ignite The Mic presents, “Poetry Slam Competition.”

Bring a date; bring a friend. Do something different with your Sunday evening. We invite everyone to join us for an amazing night of artistry as poets grace the stage.

Ignite The Mic Alexandria is the longest running poetry organization in Central Louisiana, and the number one gathering place for artists and lovers of the arts. Ignite The Mic is a local and privately funded creative initiative centered around unity, inclusion, diversity, and healing through the arts. We believe freedom of speech, self-determination, and the pursuit of creative excellence are inalienable rights. Furthermore, we believe poetry can be used to create a healthy dialogue about issues, often deemed taboo to discuss. We strive to create an understanding and appreciation for diverse perspectives by cultivating and amplifying creative voices. The purpose of this event is to promote the creation and performance of art that engages communities and provides a platform for artistic voices to be heard uncensored.

Featured Host of the Night: Wayne Henry. Raised in South Central Los Angeles, exposed to a melting pot of different cultures allows him to have a broad canvas for his work. Wayne Henry moved to Dallas in 2008 and has become a passionate poet who writes each line to watch it come alive through poetry. He is dedicated to bringing awareness to issues such as mental health, oppression, depression, and concepts of spiritual growth. Wayne Henry is a poet, teacher, father and P.O.C enthusiast. He believes, “Passion with purpose pushes life to new heights.”

Come watch amazing performances from poets from all over the globe as they compete in a poetry slam to battle it out for the title of, “The Best Poet.”

Please be advised that “colorful” language may be used. Artists are uncensored and freedom of speech is in full effect. Doors open at 6:00pm. Show starts at 6:30pm. Food available for purchase. No outside food or drinks allowed.
